PAREF Anti-Bullying Policy

I. STAND ON BULLYING:

PAREF Schools are committed to make our schools a safe and caring place for all students. Administrators, teachers, staff, parents and students treat each other with respect and refuse to tolerate bullying in any form in our school.

II. DEFINITION ON BULLYING:

Bullying is the intentional hurting of one person by one or more,  in a severe or repeated manner that causes the victim to  suffer harm or fear.

Bullying may be categorized into the following:

  1. Physical : kicking, hitting, tripping, shoving, damaging property, fighting , the use of weapons.
  2. Verbal : name calling, insults, , teasing, intimidation, lying and spreading rumors
  3. Covert : It is hard to recognize but it harms someone’s social reputation and/or cause humiliation. Examples are playing nasty jokes to embarrass or humiliate, mimicking unkindly, encouraging others to exclude someone.
  4. Cyberbullying: These refer to acts done using digital technologies. This includes but is not limited to  harassment or humiliation via mobile phone, social networking  or website through the use of words, pictures or images.

III. STUDENTS’ ATTITUDE IN RELATION TO BULLYING:

PAREF students treat each other with respect and will prevent bullying. This is manifested through the following examples:

  1. Resist to bully others
  2. Refuse to let others be bullied
  3. Refuse to watch laugh or join in when someone is being bullied.
  4. Replace exclusion with including students at play or in the interaction.
  5. Report bullying to the Class Adviser.

IV. EFFORTS OF THE SCHOOL TO COUNTER BULLYING ON PREMISES

A.    The school commits to prevent or counter bullying through the following:

  1. Recognize signs of bullying and stop it when it happens.
  2. Supervise students in all areas of the school and playground.
  3.  Respond to reports and parents’ concerns on bullying.
  4. Assigns consequences for bullying on the school’s Code of Discipline.
  5. Provide immediate consequences for retaliation against students who report bullying.

B.    Parents whose children are victims of bullying are engaged to do the following:

  1. Respond to the child that they did right in telling.
  2. Seek help from the child’s mentor.
  3. Channel all concerns to school authorities.
  4. Refrain from going directly to the student suspected of bullying and/or the student’s parents.
  5. Work with the school authorities to make the students safer and happier.

C.    Parents whose children are suspected of bullying.

  1. Work with the school personnel to help their children acquire positive attitude and behavior.
  2. Process with the child the reasons for his/her behavior.
  3. Help their child acknowledge his/her actions, and the consequences of the behavior on his/her person and on others’.
  4. Monitor the use of electronic gadgets.
  5. Advice on how to replace actions of aggression with skills.
  6. Help develop remorse.
  7. Teach to trust others and delay gratification.
  8. Help form positive and nurturing relationships .

Code of Conduct for Students Participating in Inter-school Competitions

The Code of Conduct has been established to ensure fair and safe competition and appropriate behavior of our students in such events.  Aside from the school’s Code of Conduct, PAREF Southcrest students joining interschool competitions are expected to abide by the following:

1.  Respect the rights of fellow competitors, officials, coaches/moderators, volunteers and spectators.

2.  Abide by the rules of the competition and respect the decision of the officials, making appeals through formal and approved process.

3.  Conduct oneself in a professional manner  and set a good example in dress and behavior especially relating to social relations, language, temper, punctuality.  The use of offensive language and behavior is discouraged.

4.  Treat the event/competition in a professional manner.

5.  Foster a spirit of fair play.

6.  Work hard for oneself and for the team.

7.  Consult moderator in-charge of the team for any deviation in agreements and plans made.

Any breach in this Code may result in the student being disqualified to join future competitions.
